The new HP Compaq Mini 110c looks exquisitely simple

Published by Admin on July 30th, 2009 - in Laptop News

HP-Compaq-Mini-110c

After the success of 2133, 1100 and 700, the 110c seems to get the facts straight rather than going haywire with loads of one aspect, none noticeable in the other. Folks at trustedreviews got their hands on a piece and they find out that while it might look similar to the Compaq Mini 700, closer inspection reveals plenty of differences. The 110c is chunkier and houses a proper VGA output instead of the mini variety from before. The materials feel netbook-type, with a coarser matte black plastic finish and no ‘frameless’ display. A good thing is that although the matte-finish body will keep off the regular grease and grime. The 92% keyboard is stretched to both the ends which make it quite comfortable to type on. The trackpad is situated below the keyboard in a typical HP style where the mouse-buttons are situated on the side of the pad and not below it. It sports a 10” screen with a resolution of 1,024 x 576 pixels and has an anti-glare finish, making it optimal for outdoor uses.

On the inside, the 110c is nothing special. It is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive – the standard netbook configuration in tune with Intel. You also get 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a webcam.

The prices for the 110c start at £249 ($411) including the 3-cell battery, with the 6-cell version costing an additional bur reasonable 30 pounds.

While the good things with 110c is its greatly placed keyboard and a very reasonable price, it certainly won’t revolutionaries the market.

Point of View Mobii netbook has Ion inside, psychedelia outside

Published by Admin on July 21st, 2009 - in Laptop News

Mobii_ION_230_netbook

Just by looking at the Mobii ION 230, you can tell it’s a netbook keen on standing out from the crowd. This desire extends through its internals, which rely on NVIDIA’s Ion platform to power an Atom N230 CPU, usually a nettop part, alongside an upgradeable 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD. Hence, while battery life might take a comparative beating, graphical and processing ability should be appreciably superior to your run-of-the-mill netbook. Point of View promises flawless 1080p playback and DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0 support, with an HDMI-out if you don’t feel the 10.2-inch display at 1024x 600 resolution does those features justice. You’d be wrong to expect anything more than a slideshow in graphically intensive games, but it’s good to know the netbook market is getting a juiced-up option, and fret not, there’s a conservative black paintjob available too. European prices are expected around the €349 ($495) mark and availability should hit within the next few weeks.

Toshiba coating NB200 netbook in silky pink and blue

Published by Admin on July 20th, 2009 - in Laptop News

The Dynabook UX / NB200 netbook has only been out for a few months now, but already Toshiba’s looking to score a few more buyers with two new hues. Originally launched in white, brown and black, Tosh has decided to queue up a pair of fresher, brighter colors for those looking for something a bit different. Now, you can expect the lappie to start making the rounds in “silky pink” and “blue,” though we get the feeling these will hit the UK first. Head on down to the read link for a hands-on gallery, but don’t expect any exciting new hardware — it’s still the same ole 1.6GHz Atom, 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard drive that we’re so painfully used to seeing.

Bandai RilakKuma netbook suffers from serious supercuteitis

Published by Admin on July 14th, 2009 - in Laptop News

Bandai_RilakKuma_netbook_kids

The RilakKuma is what’s known in the business as a money-printing device. It might have the same spec — Atom N270, 1GB memory and 160GB storage — as every netbook since the time of Moses, but its killer feature is a set of eyes and whiskers painted on the lid. Having once already cashed in on popular children’s characters, Bandai is clearly not shy about exploiting its intellectual assets in peddling outdated 8.9-inch 1024×600 displays to the undemanding youth. Only 500 units will be produced, making this a pretty exclusive item and the price is unsurprisingly steep: ¥79,800 ($862). Integrated WiFi and a 1Seg tuner go some way toward rationalizing the cost, but let’s be frank, rationality doesn’t play a huge role in a purchase like this.
